Male Hairline Transplant Case | Overhead and Side Views About 6 to 12 Months After Surgery
A man in his 40s came to Dr. Wen-Yi Wu for a hair transplant assessment because his frontal hairline was receding and both temples were deep. He hoped to redesign the outline of his forehead. About 6 months and about 12 months after surgery, the hair was held back with a headband and photographed from an overhead forehead angle and from the right side; use the sliders below to compare the two points.
This case uses an overhead view to show the hairline and the middle of the forehead, and the right side to show the temple outline. The actual technique, treatment area and graft allocation still need to be assessed by the doctor in person, based on the extent of hair loss, hair calibre, donor supply and the risk of future hair loss.
Hairline at About 6 and 12 Months: Two Angles
These images were taken about 6 months and about 12 months after surgery; they are not a before-and-after comparison. In both sessions a headband held the hair back so the hairline and temples could be seen. The photos were taken by the patient: at about 6 months the hair was slightly damp and the head was tilted further down in the side view, and the lighting and background also differ, all of which affect how visible the scalp is. The eyes have been masked to protect the patient's privacy.

This is a photo record of a single case and does not mean everyone will achieve the same result. Transplanted hair usually grows in gradually over several months to more than a year, and recovery speed varies; hair length, dampness, head angle, camera distance and lighting were not the same at the two points, which affects how the hairline and scalp appear.
What Should Be Watched at Six Months and One Year After a Hairline Transplant?
Around six months after surgery, transplanted hair is usually still coming in, and the edge of the hairline may look fine and sparse; coverage then builds gradually as the hair grows longer and thicker. At follow-up visits the doctor reviews the hairline outline, how the temples blend in, whether native hair is still thinning and the risk of future hair loss, and discusses whether medication or further planning is needed. Taking photos at the same angle, lighting and hairstyle each time makes changes easier to compare.
Want to know how your own hairline could be planned?
Results vary between individuals and depend on native hair density, hair calibre, donor supply and aftercare. Graft counts reflect each patient's own hair loss at the time and are not a fixed recommendation; your plan requires an in-person assessment by the doctor.
